Robin Williams’ “The Invention of Golf”

Robin Williams’ “The Invention of Golf”
This was Robin Williams during the taping of his HBO Special, “Live on Broadway”. I was in the audience (Row 6 – next to Bryant Gumbel and Paul Risor!) and I swear I almost peed myself during this bit.

  1. Robin Williams passing devastated me. A man so successful so brilliant so in your face, quite rightly will be remembered as a comedic great.

What wont be remembered is why his life ended as it did. Addiction and mental health issues even today are a taboo subject. You cannot say to even a close friend, I think I have mental health problems, because you know they will run away. It is not their fault, they just don’t understand.

At the moment the viral craze is the ‘ice bucket challenge’ to raise awareness of ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), or as we call it in the UK Motor Neurone Disease. Prof Stephen Hawkins being a very public figure who has it.

But very little is done to try and raise awareness of mental health. That need to change.

I think Charlie Sheen put it right when he was challenged to the Ice Bucket Challenge. Fuck the ice, here’s $10K.
