What do the Olympics mean to this guy? Let him tell you

I love when people feel the need to make sweeping generalizations. They are so easy to poke holes in and have the added advantage of making the writer look, as my English stepfather used to say, “a right twat”. This guy is the perfect example.

Steelyhands:

What do the Olympics mean to me?

The answers nothing, honestly I couldn’t care less about “The Games”…I’m not too sure anyone really cares about them all that much either, No real people anyway…

So all the people on my Twitter feed watching their favorite athlete, sport, country – none of them are “real people”? The people expressing their joy and excitement over tennis, cycling, the 100 meter Finals – none of them are real?

Look, I get that you don’t like the Olympics – I have no problem with that. They are too commercial, too taken over by business interests, less about “athletic performance” and more about just winning. I get that it’s a nightmare for those who have to live in an Olympic city or country. I get that the huge amounts of money spent is better used elsewhere.

But when you make claims that “No one seems to care…” You just make yourself look like an idiot.

  1. I can understand your point of view, I can get why people might get a bit swept up in the whole thing, especially when their country is doing well, my blog is about things from my perspective, obviously you have a different perspective, I honestly couldn’t find one excited person who didn’t have a vested interest in a specific Olympic sport before the competition started, now everyones into it and you have the right as everyone else does to get swept up in the apparent drama, I only write in sweeping generalisations about the olympics because what’s written, in my article is all I know about the Olympics, I write my blog because I enjoy writing, I dont do what I do to get satisfaction through belittling others, thanks for the pingback though.

    • ” my blog is about things from my perspective…”

Agreed – and “your perspective” is out of whack with reality.

      “I honestly couldn’t find one excited person…”

So you then thought because you couldn’t find them, there weren’t any? That seems a bit myopic on your part, doesn’t it?

      “now everyones into it…”

Wait….you wrote, “No real people” care about the Olympics. Now, “everyone’s into it”. I’m sure you can see how I might get the impression you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

“you have the right as everyone else does to get swept up in the apparent drama…”

You assume facts not in evidence. I never said I was excited about the Olympics.

“I only write in sweeping generalisations…”

Stop right there…as I wrote, whenever you write generalizations, you make yourself look ridiculous. Maybe you should stop generalizing.

“I dont do what I do to get satisfaction through belittling others…”

Neither do I. But when I see someone writing/talking out of their as, I have no problem pointing it out.

      • ha ha, brilliant, if i was to talk about the olympics in anything other than generalities the post would have been far too long, the post itself is nothing more than what i have seen, living in Britain, you obviously do gain satisfaction through belittling others, otherwise why would you post something like this rather than write something about what the olympics mean to you ? just because I and several others dont share your opinion doesnt give you the right to attack us, by the way, when i said real people i was referring to those not on the news or in adverts, you know, the people who slammed the Olympics down our throats, do not tell me how to write, you come accross like an arogant fuckwit, i’m done wasting my time on this, my blog is what it is and i thank christ people like you dont agree with it, if you did i’d worry that I was doing something wrong.

Then you obviously haven’t seen enough and need to get out more.

“you obviously do gain satisfaction through belittling others…”

No – I get satisfaction out of dealing with narrow minded people like you….yeah..it’s SO much fun….

“why would you post something like this rather than write something about what the olympics mean to you ?”

Because what I posted was a response to what you posted. Sorry that was unclear. None of this discussion has anything to do with “what the Olympics means to me”…and I’m not in Junior High School, trying to write a paper for English class.

“just because I and several others dont share your opinion doesnt give you the right to attack us…”

          “Us”? Who is this “us”?

“when i said real people i was referring to those not on the news or in adverts…”

Maybe you should have made that more clear. And, as I said, there are lots of people who aren’t “on the news or in adverts” who are loving the Olympics.

“do not tell me how to write…”

Someone has to – you’re terrible at it.

“you come accross like an arogant fuckwit…”

Perhaps – but you come across as an idiot who doesn’t know how to think or write clearly. I know which I’d rather be.

“i’m done wasting my time on this…”

          LOL No – you’re not.

        • Your post was a lot more than about what you’ve seen. It was about how you can’t seem to imagine anything else. Including opinions that differ from yours.

“Attack”? No, precious. Shawn was making fun of your solipsism.
